Dorothy Louise (Harper) Jacobs, 75 years old, of Goldsboro, North Carolina was born to the late Carl B. Teachy and Rosalee Harper on June 3, 1944. She was reared by her grandmother and survived insurmountable calamity and despair through her deep relationship with Christ. This fortress of a woman was married to the late Charles Jacobs on September 6, 1964, and they were blessed with six, beautiful children. After working for 20 years, she retired from O’Berry Treatment Center as a Healthcare Technician in 1996.
Forty years ago, when her first granddaughter, Donisha McClain, was born, she was too fly to be called grandma, so from then on, we called her “Boochie”. She received a special name because she was truly an extraordinary woman to her family and community. Her home was always welcome to everyone without a call. You might just walk in on her playing her favorite arcade game, Ms. Pac-Man, or bonding with other family members and close friends. She decorated her home with pictures of absolutely everyone. It was no secret that she was proud of her family. The highlight of family gatherings included her famous banana pudding, love for getting down on the dance floor, and keeping it real.
Memories of her love, strength, and commitment to our family and close friends will live on forever. On October 1, 2019, she passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Greenville Inpatient Hospice House. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles Jacobs, and loving daughter, Beverly Hawkins, in 2008.
Dorothy is survived by five children and one God child: Charles Jacobs Jr., of White Plains, Maryland; Charlenna (Edmund) Bennet-Carter, of Goldsboro, North Carolina; Nina Jacobs, of Raeford, North Carolina; Antoinette Ward, of Goldsboro, North Carolina; Maurice (Shonise) Jacobs, of Goldsboro, North Carolina; Thaddeus “Teddy” Best, of Goldsboro, North Carolina. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
