I won't be troubled no more
When I reach heaven's door
There's no greater reward you see
I'll be so happy, Jesus and me.
Olivia Brewer Whitfield affectionately known as “Smiley” was a pillar of strength, courage, and faith. Her infectious smile of warmth and glow made you feel special in her presence.
Olivia was born to the late Bro. Charles Brewer and Pastor Gladys Brewer on March 28, 1939. She was raised in Wayne County where she graduated from Norwayne High School in 1959. Her formative years were deeply rooted and guided by the love and teachings of Jesus Christ at Little Rock Church of Christ.
Upon graduation, she attended Barnes Business School in Goldsboro, then moved to Brooklyn, New York to pursue opportunities beyond the cotton fields of North Carolina. After approximately 25 years, Olivia returned to North Carolina and united with New St. Mary Church under the leadership of her mother. Pastor Brewer.
She rededicated her life to God and actively supported church functions at both New St. Mary and the ministries at the Brian Center to the extent her health allowed.
Olivia loved life, her family and the community. With all her health limitations, she maximized her God given gift to encourage people’s heart with a smile that illuminated peace, love, happiness, and long-suffering.
Olivia was married to the late William Streeter and James Whitfield whereby she bestowed love to 3 children.
Including her parents, Olivia was preceded by her husbands; her son, Victor Lamont Streeter and a sister, Herline Best.
